An Italian Wedding in the Positano Town Hall

My Amalfi Coast wedding was truly a heavenly experience on earth. La Costiera Amalfitana as it is called in Italy is one of the places I have experienced heaven at. It is known to the whole world as the Amalfi Coast in Italy. It’s quite easy to see the reasons why I’ve been captivated with this beautiful place. You only need to see the place for yourself so you’d understand what I’m talking about.

How do I begin to describe the wonderful and heavenly experience I had for our Positano wedding? Let me begin by giving you a brief description of the Amalfi Coast. The Amalfi Coast is a mountainous stretch of coastline due south of Naples. The roads wind around the coast and through small villages that seemingly are clinging to the hills above the sea.

Each years these picturesque towns become the Italian wedding venues for what is considered the most romantic wedding in the world, the Amalfi Coast wedding. There’s this particular place on the Amalfi Coast that has been the obvious choice for lovers and has been witness for many a wedding. This place is Positano. I would say that there’s nothing more romantic than having a Positano wedding.

My husband and I have always dreamed of having an Italian style wedding and we wanted it to be done in no less that Italy itself. We’re that kind of couple who seems to be in tune with what each other wants. Would you believe we were both thinking about having and Amalfi Coast wedding?

It’s all because we had been there on vacation once and we would both admit that we got hooked. My husband actually brought me to the Amalfi Coast to ask me to marry him. We knew right there and then, that it was going to be a Positano wedding for us. Our experiences had been unbelievable and we knew that having an Positano wedding would be nothing short of perfect!

We decided to get married in the Positano Town Hall, since this is where the legal or civil marriages are done. We were married in Italian by the Mayor of Positano which added a nice touch. We had the choice to have our Positano wedding in a small quiant historic room or on this large terrace that had a beautiful view of the sea. We chose to have our Positano wedding on the stunning terrace, as having the backdrop of the cascading hills of Positano was perfect! The Positano wedding was done in the late afternoon which was very romantic as the sun had just begun to dip into the sea. The terrace had been decorated just as we pictured it out to be.

We chose to be our own Amalfi Coast Wedding planner, but there are many Positano wedding planners if you chose to have someone help you. The Positano wedding planner will have a team of professionals ready to take care of your wedding needs. There are many florists, musicians, bakeries and Amalfi Coast wedding venues available to you.

Your wedding should be the fairytale you’ve always pictured. For me, that fairtyle took place in Italy. My Positano wedding is something that I replay in my mind often and will continue to cherish throughout the years to come.

Why Not Get Married in Positano Italy?

When planning to get married, you would like your dream wedding to be a unique and memorable one. There is this craze that has been hitting the wedding scene for the past decade. More and more couples have decided to have their weddings away from home and found that a wedding in Italy is the perfect way to celebrate destination weddings. Even Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes had a destination wedding in Italy!

Many couples have been searching for the top wedding destinations, as well as the top honeymoon locations all over the world for a perfect destination wedding. They were not disappointed when they decided to have an Amalfi Coast wedding in Italy.

I have had a first hand experience with having an Amalfi Coast wedding, specifically a wedding in Positano. For those searching for the perfect wedding destination overseas, why not plan on having your wedding in Positano? Its beauty is surpassed by none, it is no wonder why it is considered as one of the top wedding destinations in the world today.

Yes, there are a lot of good places for wedding destinations in Italy but I really do not think there is anything more romantic than having a Positano wedding. I cannot begin to describe the feelings I had when we had our Positano wedding. It was truly an unforgettable experience for the both of us.

A wedding in Positano is like a paradise for lovers who would like to have a wedding getaway. People have been captivated by its beauty as well as with the ancient structures that abound. One good example of such structures is the Positano Town Hall where the civil Positano weddings take place.

We had this simple, yet elegant wedding ceremony on the terrace of the town hall which was overlooking the sea. The terrace was beautifully decorated according to our specifications.

You will never run out of things to do while you are there. You could go on day trips, visit the Amalfi Coast’s museums and attractions, engage yourselves in different sports and outdoor activities or have an adventure off the beaten path. The experience is breathtaking! It is really a joy to explore the place.

The possibilities are truly endless. It is certainly the most romantic place to get married in Italy. There is really nothing compared to having a Positano wedding. You would find yourself falling in love with each other all over again.

My Positano Wedding: A Dream Come True

Having a wedding in Italy is a dream wedding come true. But, having an Amalfi Coast wedding is one an event in our lives that we will cherish forever.  I’m no expert when it comes to planning weddings, but I do know how to get married in Italy. I actually had my own Amalfi Coast wedding in this picturesque town called Positano.

I’m telling you that we really enjoyed the occasion. Our Amalfi Coast wedding was perfect. Let me tell you why we chose this place. First off, we really wanted to have an Italian style wedding. But, we didn’t want to do an Italian style wedding in the USA. We wanted to get married in Italy for it to be authentic.

So, we did some research, talked to some people and found out about having an Amalfi Coast wedding. We took a trip to research Amalfi Coast wedding venues and ended up deciding on having a Positano wedding. I would say that of all the equally beautiful coastal towns we found to host our Amalfi Coast wedding, there was just something that prompted us to decide that having a Positano wedding was what we wanted.

It was the most romantic and picturesque place to us. We visited the Positano Town Hall. When we walked out of the terrace, we knew that this was the perfect place to have our Amalfi Coast wedding. We felt like we were in an Italian fairytale. Positano had everything we were looking for. The town’s buildings are cascading down the steep hillsides of Positano in such a way that it seemed like it was flowing out into the turquoise beauty that was the sea. To us, this was the perfect back drop for our Amalfi Coast wedding. It’s no surprise that Positano is one of the most popular places for getting married in Italy.

It wasn’t really hard for us to decide to have a Positano wedding. I think the hardest part in planning the Amalfi Coast wedding would be the paperwork to make getting married in Italy legal. We didn’t want it to be a symbolic wedding; we wanted our Amalfi Coast wedding to be legal and we wanted to have an Italian Wedding license. So, we had to call every government agency and find out exactly what we needed to do. Planning our Amalfi Coast wedding was confusing and difficult at first, but once we figured it out, getting married in Italy became simple.

Our Positano wedding was done on the huge terrace of the local Positano Town Hall. To make your Amalfi Coast Wedding legal, it must be done here. However, you are often married by the Mayor of Positano. We think that it’s one of the things that made our Amalfi coast wedding perfect!

Our Amalfi Coast wedding reception was held at the luxurious Hotel Le Sirenuse. We danced on the balcony overlooking the cascading houses and the sea below. I would definitely recommend getting married in Italy, particularly having an Amalfi Coast wedding in Positano.

My Fairy Tale Wedding

Getting married in Italy is a dream come true, a real fairy tail. However, the legal part of being truly married in Italy is so difficult even Tom & Katie didn’t do it legally. But we did!

1

My Engagement

My husband and I are both US Citizens who just happen to have a love-affair with Italy. My perfect husband proposed to me in the most perfect way. We flew to Italy for a long romantic weekend on the Amalfi Coast. After flying all night, we drove from Naples to Positano. When we finally arrived at Le Sirenuse hotel, my soon-to-be fiance insisted we walk down to the Duomo (church) in the town. I was tired from traveling all day, but I went along with it because it seemed important to him. Little did I know that he had my engagement ring in his pocket since we left the US! Once inside the Duomo he was acting a little scattered, as I look back I realize that he was just trying to find the perfect spot for his proposel. So, there we were near the candles. We have a tradition that when we enter a church, we always light a candle at make a prayer or wish for the future. So, we lit a candle and he got down on one knee and “wished I would marry him”. I remember immediately crying and hugging him so tight.  Positano became such a special place in our hearts, that we decided to go back almost a year later to have our perfect Italian wedding.

Planning the Wedding

To us, Positano is the most picturesque place in the world. There is no venue that could compete with the mountain of multi-colored houses piled on top of each other in Positano set against the marine blue of the sea. In Positano for your marriage to be legal, you must be actually married at Town Hall. Of course, you can have another spiritual ceremony at another location, however this ancient town hall has a large terrace where you can hold your ceremony. Which is exactly what we did.

Making it Legal: The hardest part of planning my wedding was the paperwork and the “red tape” involved in making my wedding legal. I really didn’t want to have to get married in the US and then just have a spiritual or symbolic ceremony in Italy. I wanted that Italian wedding license! So, I called every government agency that I could find and make a checklist of exactly what I had to do. (I’ve included my checklist and all the contacts & details in my step by step guide!)

The Dress: Destination weddings mean you need a dress that can withstand the planes, trains and automobiles of getting there. I found a fantastic designer, Winnie Couture, that offers “destination dresses”. Currently, I am actually featured on their Winnie Brides section. However, if you do opt for a princess-style wedding dress you can always ship it to the hotel in advance!

The Wedding

My Wedding Signing the licsense

When I arrived at the Positano Commune (Town Hall), I was excited. My father walked me down the steps, actually rather steep steps! Then we waited inside for the Mayor to arrive (he was obviously on Italian time!). But, he did. Then, the music began playing and I walked out onto the balcony to my friends, family and soon to be husband. The ceremony itself was in Italian (you must have a translator if you don’t speak the language). We said our vows to each other, exchanged rings, signed our marriage licsense and shared our first kiss as husband and wife!

Funny Story: When my husband tried to put my ring on (which was previously sized), it didn’t fit! I’m gonna blame the pasta because it fits now! (picture above)

The Reception

Reception Cake First Dance

Our reception was held on the balcony of the most beautiful hotel in the world, Le Sirenuse. Here we had a sunset reception with Bellinis, Hot and Cold Canape (which basically is hot and cold finger foods, it took me months to understand it!) Also, they made our cake which was the most amazing cake I have ever tasted in my life. The staff of this should-be ten-million star hotel is attentive and made every aspect of our reception perfect!

Reception Dinner Last Wedding Pics

Following the reception we had a typical Italian dinner at a local restaurant called Chez Black on the beach in Positano. You may recognize this restaurant from Under the Tuscan Sun, the scene where she’s sipping limoncello on the beach with the Italian man. Black himself was very gracious and really took care of our party. You’ll notice that the walls are lined with celebrity photos. This is place to eat in Positano!
